Materials – Dissolving and Filtering

In the past couple of science lessons we have been learning about materials that dissolve and how to use filtering and other techniques to separate materials. This is leading to a challenge to see who can use these tecqhniques to produce the cleanest water from a sample of dirty water.

Aardman Model Making Workshop

Brooke won Into Film’s Shaun the Sheep – Farmageddon competition so year 5 got a visit from Will Harding, a model maker at Aardman animation, who worked on the film, to learn how to make the character, Lula. It was also reported in the local press on the Shropshire Star website.

Applying knowledge from our science topic.

The children were asked to apply their learning from their science topic to a real life situation. We needed to create some colourful, Christmas-themed window catchers for our classroom. We chose translucent paper as a background, with an opaque paper to create the shapes. I think you’ll agree that they look amazing!

Christingle Service

Today Class 11 represented Year 5 at the Christingle service at St. mary’s Church whilst Class 12 were at their swimming lessons. Reverend Heather led the service and the children took part in the carol singing and leading the prayers.

Shadows and Light

Today Year 5 have been investigating the relationship between the distance of an object from a light source and the size of its shadow.

French Horn Lessons

Over the last two weeks, Class 11 have begun their French Horn lessons with Telford and Wrekin music you can see them progress from their first exercises to their first performance as part of an ensemble in their first two lessons.

Gymnastics

Class 11 had their first gymnastics lesson of the year on Thursday and practised some of the moves they had learned last year.
